Celine Dion has been entertaining audiences since she was a child. She began singing with her brothers and sisters and soon realized she wanted to be a famous entertainer. She caught the attention of an entertainment manager at age 12, after her brother sent him a tape of Celine singing a song that her mother and brother co-wrote. The manager, who eventually became her husband, was so taken by her rich voice, he took her on as a client and proceeded to bring Celine Dion to the world.
Celine Dion first appeared in Las Vegas from 2003 through 2007, under a 600 show contract to appear 5 nights a week at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. She entertained in a specially designed venue that seated 4,000 people. During the run of the show, Celine entertained more than three million fans.
Beginning in March 2011, Celine took up residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace once again for a three year singing engagement, and she made a triumphant return. Celine brought a brand new show to Las Vegas with a full orchestra and band, featuring 31 musicians and 3 backup singers. Celine performs her biggest hits, mixed in with some old classics, surrounded by an array of stunning visual effects that are as much about pageantry as they are about Celine’s music and performance style. During Celine’s several costume changes, the audience is treated to the musical styling’s of her band and orchestra and backup singers who belt out songs that are worthy of a Las Vegas stage.
Her new show begins where her old show left up in 2007 with a video from that performance and an escape around the planet with Celine on her world tour. Celine makes her way back to Las Vegas and appears onstage to a standing ovation and it’s like she never left. As she sings her way through the first part of her performance, videos of her early career are shown on 11 different screens, letting the audience catch a glimpse of how she has become the entertainer that she is today.
Celine pays tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and Michael Jackson through song and verse and performs a rendition of their music that would bring them both to tears if they were still walking the earth. Celine was influenced by a wide variety of music, but she always called them both a source of inspiration from a young age and even as her career evolved.
Celine recaptures the Las Vegas mystique when she sings a duet with a hologram of herself onstage. During the song, she magically appears in the audience and leaves them wondering if the image on stage is really Celine or a mystical figment of their imagination. The crowd is also treated to Celine singing a duet with a Stevie Wonder hologram, as well.
Celine returns to her roots a time or two and sings several songs in French that are so captivating, the songs leave an emotional ring around the audience that they will not soon forget. If that wasn’t enough, videos roll once again and this time of her children as she performs her rendition of a lullaby made famous by Billy Joel.
Celine also gets the audience out of their seats and into the aisles with two upbeat and high energy tracks of hers. Some audience members refer to this segment as Celine’s aerobic moments as the calorie burn all around is worth a workout or two at the gym.
Celine Dion has proven, once again, she still has it and Las Vegas wants it. Celine brings sophistication and a major dash of elegance to the stage at Caesars Palace and her fans are hoping she stays for a long, long time.
