Jabbawockeez, an all men modern hip hop/dance team hailing from San Diego, California, were the season one winners of the reality dance competition “America’s Best Dance Crew.” They have appeared in commercials and videos and even performed during the 2009 NBA All Star game with Shaquille O’Neal. They wear masks and gloves of plain to encourage audience members to focus not on their looks, but on their movement.
In 2010, Jabbawockeez first appeared on stage at the MGM Grand Hollywood Theater on the Las Vegas strip from 07 May to 26 May. The show combined the talents from the “America’s Best Dance Crew” second season champs and original music by the “Bangerz.” In July 2010, they announced additional performances would be held in August. In September 2010, the Jabbawockeez announced they had been signed by the Monte Carlo Hotel to perform 5 nights a week.
Jabbawockeez is a multimedia story of human inspiration brought to life through a combination of sound and extreme dance moves. The members wear expressionless white masks and gloves to distract the audience member’s attention away from individual attention and toward the group as a team. Jabbawockeez wants to create a blank canvas and allow the audience to visualize the music by rendering artistic imagery through intricate and energetic moves. Jabbawockeez has become known as hip hop mimes.
The Dancing Characteristics of the Jabbawockeez
Jabbawockeez Las Vegas is total entertainment. They have successfully combined two contrasting elements to create an alternative to traditional Vegas entertainment and have gained fans as proof. Jabbawockeez tells a story through dance by bringing together the elements of choreography and intricate synchronization, along with break dancing. They add a refreshing spin to today’s boy bands culture.
The Jabbawockeez will make you laugh, sing and just plain want to move as the dance team rocks and rolls and tumbles and flips their way around the stage. They perform with such high energy the audience may wonder if they are wind up, hip hopping, break dancing robots. The precision in their movement is like a fine tuned Stradivarius. It is precise, it is exact, it is Jabbawockeez.
The fantastic show is definitely for all ages. The older generation will wonder “how did they do that?” as the younger generation will be able to relate to their style, but in the end all generations will appreciate the energy and the mad cap movement that is fast becoming known as the best thing to hit Vegas in a long time. The performances are upbeat and, and at times, very loud but they are pure fun and anyone who does not leave the show with a smile, was defiantly not paying attention.

They are changing the dance landscape with their seemingly impossible moves and their extreme and limitless energy. The dance team moves to original music created by the Bangerz and a variety of tunes from movies such as “The Matrix” and music from the Jackson 5’s “Dancing Machine” and Beyonce’s “Single Ladies.”

Jabbawockeez pays homage to the influences of the team by including dance and entertainment styles reminiscent of Charlie Chaplin, Gene Kelly, and The Blue Man Group with easily identifiable dance routines.
